The old master opened his tired eyes and embraced all his disciples in a warm look.
With a great effort he descended to reality bringing his teaching so much waited for by his followers, and said:
"Life is an arrow that flies into Eternity."
His favorite devotee asked: "Are you sure, Sarjana, that life flies into Eternity?"
"What?" the sage asked with a look of fright in his venerable countenance, "have you found it doesn't?"
The music is a fragment of "Voices of Eternity" by Vadim Kisilev.

Stunning- :))
ReplyDeleteOff the record, just that finding it was the first thought of reading arrow that files into eternity-
And that deepness of Life could be said that simply is what makes this story great!
BTW hoping you've found your tails.
And, I'm wishing to touch that someday- :))
Hey dude!
DeleteYou were lost, but now you are back! Welcome home!
You see, I could not find out if there is only an arrow as LIFE going into Eternity, or if there are as many arrows as lives were, are, and will be on Earth. This last premise is awfully scaring!
Thank you for your kind thought!
Yes, they are safe and kept under guard 24/7!
Your desire will be fulfilled when the cows come home! :))
Don't you get lost again, you are needed here!
Lost? May be filling into eternity as an arrow, I was! Just, may be. :))
DeleteDude, each lives were, are, and will be arrow, sure scaring- if some parts of each lives become an arrow- Oops!!
Thinking how your tails have relation to Cows coming home, eh?
I wont, don't know about surrounding though, they tend to hide me whether I want or not!!
Watch out! The Door to Eternity is too narrow. :)
DeleteToo many arrows and so few archers. We are losing time!
Cows are coming, you'll find them reading my tails, or what is left of them. Beware of too much moo, moo! :)
Only goes in hiding, he who has something to hide! Keep the chin high, mate! :)
Welcome to FSF.. That last line has something very special about it.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ros, for your welcome!
DeleteThat things told by masters are the raw hide that keep us thinking!
Thank you for your visit!
Come again!
Who could deny the wisdom in this tale? The old master has a great word about life. Loved what he said and his question to his disciple.
ReplyDeleteA short tale but with big meaning. Nicely written! Thanks, Od. :)
Thank YOU, BB!
DeleteIt is easily noted where there is Elf's touch here!
He flatters himself to know why this kind of nice mystic interpretations of life exist. Too much for a being who not even he knows if he possesses a life of his own! :)
He is strutting about, telling me that you are the only one who understand a fairy!
Nobody knows for sure what happens, but I think that something survives the death of the body. I liked this. It was rather Zen.
ReplyDeleteHello Adam!
DeleteWelcome to my blog!
You're right, we do not know, but most people like to believe we are intended for a better life.
Thank you for your visit, and kind comment.
Right again, it is Zen, in its Tao flavour!
Come again!
Who would think that such a short sentence would have you thinking for such a long time? His devotee has a point and good question. And that's why we have such great masters.
ReplyDeleteThe reason of the twist is that we never give room for a Master to be wrong, when the true Master knows he may be not as wise as others think.
DeleteThere is no doubt this curious devotee is treading the path of his master. He will become a master soon enough.
It is so difficult to acknowledge we do not know! :)
Thank you RPD!
I love this. I love your creativity and your insight. Thank you for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, McGuffy Ann!
DeleteYour support gives me strength to keep going!
Come again, you are very welcome here, of course!
At least the old master was wise enough to wonder if his disciples experiences conflicted with his own. The way you expressed his surprise was well done!
ReplyDeleteHello K R Smith!
DeleteWelcome to my blog!
You are right, the core of the master wisdom is his ability to recognize he has no exclusive knowledge about anything.
Thank you for stopping by.
Please, come back!
Great tale! I love the image of life being an arrow that flies into eternity. I once heard someone say that they were planning on living to be 100, so far so good...
ReplyDeleteWelcome to my blog, Andy!
DeleteThank you!
We all want to stay in the world the longest possible, if we are well in body and mind.
But in last premise in our heart is still "Eternity"
The first part seems like it is accomplishing slowly, unfortunately, the second part we will not know while being here! :)
Thank you for your visit! Come back!
I really liked this, I love how you captured how shaken the sage was by questioning :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Roisin! Welcome to my blog!
DeleteIt is how I think a Master should feel about his/her ideas. Not in the stubborn believe that there is no other interpretation, but the wonderful possibility of change!
Please, come again!
