Favourite Quote

I am very sorry not to have had the opportunity to meet Dorothy Parker personally. The first thing I would have done, in that case, I'd have invited her to my house for some martinis.

That is because she was one of those persons who seemed to have the right set of words in her mouth each time she opened her lips.

She was a beautiful woman who always knew what to say and her quotes are immortal, to my mind the best she produced was:

Dorothy Parker
"I like to have a martini,
Two at the very most.
After three I'm under the table,
After four I'm under my host."

Isn't' she adorable?

Even in serious matters she could find the right way to say it, just as a bonus I mention one more:

"That would be a good thing for them to cut on my tombstone: Wherever she went, including here, it was against her better judgment."

A great poetess, a great writer, a great woman.

Do I need to explain why I like her words?

    1. You are very right!

Very few people had the presence of mind as to concoct a real good sentence for their eulogy without falling into being pompous and silly.

She did hers with wit and happiness.

      Thank you, Nina.

  2. I loved the martini quote from her. Sounds about right after a few drinks, so women should take note :)

It's not always easy finding a great quote, so I'm guessing that it must be much harder for a writer to come up with one that many would remember.

    1. Great!

But it is not clear the reason why women should take note!! :))

I don't know, really. It is a question of wits. The problem is that there are so many writer queued from the (hackneyed sentence) dawn of time, you risk to repeat a subject without realizing it. Especially if you are a customary, omnivorous, and inveterate reader.

    1. Sure thing, Michelle!

Both these women lived a male world with an easiness that made anyone of those chauvinists uneasy! :)

They possessed that wonderful and elusive trait called:
      WIT! :)

  4. You have given such a very sweet explanation and I understand why! LOL

I'm also feeling sorry for you, Od. It seems destiny wasn't on both your paths. But having quoted her is already sweet enough!

    Nice choice. :)
